Five arrests for family violence

Five Canberrans were arrested on Saturday with various family violence offences, including assault, confinement and property damage.

In one incident, a 33-year-old Reid man was charged with aggravated common assault occasioning actual bodily harm after allegedly striking his ex-partner in the face.

Also, a 53-year-old Rivett man has been charged with aggravated common assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated common assault and forcible confinement. Police will allege the man threw a bucket of water at his wife, pushed her from behind causing the woman to fall and threatening to lock her in a chicken cage in their backyard.

A 36-year-old Palmerston man was charged after allegedly strangling his partner.

In the other two incidents, a 30-year-old Banks woman and a 31-year-old Chisholm man were charged after allegedly assaulting their partners. The man was also charged with property damage.
