Eisteddfod bands scoop awards

Around 2750 musicians from 83 concert, school and jazz bands, orchestras and ensembles took part in the Australian National Eisteddfod’s Bands & Orchestras event which closed on June 2.

A highlight event was the Open Concert and Brass Bands in Llewellyn Hall on May 31, where 10 open age (adult) bands took part.

Four Open groups (Hunter School of the Performing Arts Junior Concert Band, Hunter Wind Ensemble, Ginninderra Wind Orchestra and Canberra City Band) received Platinum Awards from adjudicator, Joanne Heaton, to recognise outstanding performances, while there were also 32 Gold, 31 Silver and 10 Bronze awards.

The Eisteddfod will continue in August and September with Piano, Singing, and Speech and Drama events, all details at nationaleisteddfod.org.au
