A 44-year-old man has been charged after allegedly driving at 160km/h on the Kings Highway before leading police on a pursuit and crashing into a wombat.
Police say highway patrol officers detected a hatchback travelling at 160km/h in a 100km/h zone near Braidwood about 10.45pm on Friday.
The driver allegedly failed to stop for police, turned around and drove back towards Braidwood before the vehicle came to a stop on Clyde Mountain after striking a wombat.
Police arrested the man and allege he returned a breath-test reading of 0.089 and tested positive for cocaine.
The 44-year-old has been charged with speeding by more than 45km/h, police pursuit, mid-range drink driving, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle.
