An 85-year-old Gungahlin man has been charged after allegedly assaulting his long-term partner in a series of incidents spanning several months.
Police allege the man assaulted the woman multiple times at their Gungahlin home between December and March.
In December, he allegedly struck her several times with a walking stick, causing her to fall to the ground before she fled the home as he pursued her.
In January, the man allegedly brandished a knife and made stabbing motions towards her.
During the most recent incident on Tuesday, the man allegedly struck the woman repeatedly with a walking stick with enough force to break it, causing her to fall. She was later taken to hospital with bruising and cuts.
The incident was reported by a witness, with police subsequently arresting the man and charging him with two counts of using an offensive weapon, and one count each of common assault, intentional threat to inflict grievous bodily harm, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
