Wanted man extradited from Hideaway Bay

A 39-year-old Campbell man has been extradited from Queensland to Canberra after allegedly hiding in a Whitsundays Airbnb while wanted over a major drug trafficking investigation.

Police began investigating the alleged large-scale trafficking of methylamphetamine, heroin and cocaine in the ACT in 2025.

Detectives allege the man supplied significant quantities of controlled and prohibited drugs to multiple people in Canberra.

The man’s Campbell home and his vehicle were searched in December, where police say they located large quantities of drugs, cash, drug paraphernalia and items believed to be linked to drug distribution.

Police said they seized more than 2.8 kilograms of methylamphetamine, more than 350 grams of cocaine, more than 14 grams of heroin, more than 5000 buprenorphine strips and testosterone.

Mobile devices seized during the investigation allegedly contained encrypted communications between the man and others relating to the supply of illicit drugs.

Police also allege the man failed to comply with a lawful order requiring him to provide access to two mobile phones seized during the investigation.

Following the search warrants in December, the man allegedly fled the ACT.

Queensland Police located him on Saturday hiding in an Airbnb at Hideaway Bay in the Whitsundays that had been rented under another person’s name.

During a search of the accommodation, officers allegedly found a fake driver’s licence featuring the man’s image as well as multiple bank cards in other names.

The man has been charged with three counts of trafficking a controlled drug, two counts of possessing a declared substance, contravening a requirement to provide access to an electronic device and possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

Police said further charges are expected as the investigation continues.
