Art sale to raise funds for Afghan family

A small group of Canberra volunteers will hold a fundraising art exhibition next week to support an Afghan family of seven currently living in Pakistan as they seek a safe and permanent home.

All proceeds from the exhibition, titled Art for Life, will go to the Sharifi family, who are among thousands of Afghans displaced by recent political instability and now facing an uncertain future in Pakistan.

The group say they have been raising about $2000 a month for more than a decade to assist one family at a time with accommodation, education, healthcare, visa costs and eventual flights, relying on community support and grassroots fundraising.

The Art for Life exhibition will feature donated works from more than 20 emerging and established artists and will run at 17 Stokes Street, Griffith, 10.30am-4pm, on Sunday, February 15, with artworks, live music and food available on the day.
