Fleeing man charged with assaulting pregnant ex-partner

A 22-year-old man was arrested at Canberra Airport on Tuesday evening after allegedly strangling his pregnant former partner at her home earlier that afternoon.

Police will allege the man was at his former partner’s home when he became aggressive, strangling her and hitting her, causing her to fall to the ground.

The woman called a family member for help and the man left the residence.

Police arrested the man at the airport as he was preparing to board a domestic flight.

He has been charged with aggravated common assault and choking/suffocating/strangling another person.
