Police link Gungahlin Drive death with two robberies

Police believe three incidents on Friday – a home invasion, where a 72-year-old woman was tied up; a robbery at a Dickson business and a fatal collision on Gungahlin Drive – are linked.

About 4.15am, the Conder woman disturbed two masked people inside her home. Police allege she was tied up and forced to provide bank login details.

Later that morning, several offenders entered a store on Wooley Street, Dickson, and threatened staff with guns before stealing cash.

The group fled in a stolen white Nissan Pathfinder (YNW 86T). It was later located on fire in Macquarie.

Police believe at least one person from the Dickson group entered a silver Audi sedan (YSC 34D). It was seen in Woden and Tuggeranong and was pursued multiple times with police terminating pursuits due to the erratic driving manner of the vehicle.

At about 12.15pm, the Audi collided head on with a small tip truck, having left the Barton Highway the wrong way up an exit ramp towards Gungahlin Drive.

The 24-year-old Audi driver was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead. The truck driver was also taken to hospital, but with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are looking for two other co-offenders and are urging anyone who witnessed the home invasion in Conder, robbery in Dickson, or has dash-cam footage of the Nissan or Audi, to come forward.

Provide contact details to police via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
