Charged with driving stolen car drugged and no licence

A 25-year-old Aranda man is facing charges of stealing a vehicle, failing to stop for police, driving under the influence of drugs and without a licence.

Early Thursday morning police allege the man stole a white 2020 Land Rover Discovery (YQC 20W) from a home in Gungahlin.

By 10am police had tracked the Land Rover to Macquarie and were gesturing for the vehicle to stop. A tyre-deflation device was deployed, successfully puncturing a front tyre, but the vehicle kept going, allegedly weaving through traffic at speed.

The man eventually surrendered to police and underwent a drug-screening test, returning a positive result.

The man was taken into custody and charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent, aggravated dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, unlicensed driver (licence never held) and driving under the influence of drugs.

Anyone who has dashcam footage of the vehicle on Thursday morning should provide their contact details to police via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
