Stolen car used to ram Casey cafe

A 36-year-old man, who was subject to good behaviour obligations, has been charged with breaking into multiple businesses to steal cars, one of which was later used for a ram raid in Gungahlin.

Police allege the man and another unknown person broke into a car yard in Fyshwick, stealing a black Range Rover Evoque and a grey Toyota Landcruiser Prado on October 19.

The man and an unidentified person allegedly broke into another Fyshwick car yard at 1am on October 22 and stole the keys to two vehicles, but not the cars.

Later that morning the stolen Toyota was used to ram the front door and windows of a cafe in Casey. Nothing was stolen during the incident but the store was significantly damaged.

By 5.30am the vehicle was located on fire in Jacka.

Police searched the man’s Moncrieff home and vehicle on October 29, seizing a taser and another vehicle that contained stolen property.

He was subsequently arrested on Tuesday afternoon and charged with four counts of aggravated burglary, driving while suspended, three counts of joint commission theft, and one count each of possessing a prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of stolen property.
