Canberrans are more likely to adopt sun protective behaviours than those living in any other state, according to data collated from the Australian Bureau of Statistics by iSelect.

With a score of 62/100 in the territory’s overall adoption of sun safety habits, the ACT also ranks as the top region for protective behaviours with 61.8 per cent of Canberrans using three or more sun protection measures.

Three in five Canberrans use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher (60.5 per cent), wear sunglasses (60.6 per cent) and seek shade (59.8 per cent).

iSelect research found the ACT is the most sun-safe state in the country.

Placing fourth on the amount of time spend outdoors, almost three quarters (72.3 per cent) of residents spend more than 15 minutes in peak UV for almost three days a week, which earned an exposure score of 29.3/100.

The data also found that one in 10 Canberrans (9.6 per cent) attempted to get a suntan, while 6.2 per cent recently experienced a sunburn.
