School-zone speeding tip leads cops to stolen car

A report to police of a black Mercedes speeding through a school zone has led to the arrest of a man and a woman and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

Following a call from a member of the public about the school zone early on Tuesday afternoon, police located the Mercedes parked in a carport in Weston.

Police confirmed the car was stolen from a Forrest residence earlier this month and seized it for forensic examination.

A 45-year-old Mawson man and a 48-year-old woman were subsequently arrested. The woman was also allegedly found to be in possession of items believed stolen including car keys, jewellery, mobile phones and watches.

The man was charged with riding/driving a motor vehicle without consent and breaching parole. He also returned a positive roadside drug test.

The woman was charged with unlawful possession of stolen property, riding/driving a motor vehicle without consent and breaching a good behaviour order.
