Constable Kenny clocks up 50 years of service

Kenny Koala… 50 years with the force.
It’s 50 years today since Leading Senior Constable Kenny Koala joined the police force.

The loveable character joined on September 1, 1975, and since then he’s been been visiting schools, chatting with students, handing out stickers, and sharing tips on everything from road safety  to online safety.

“I wear the badge because I am passionate about encouraging children to make safe choices and teaching them to ‘Stay OK’,” he says.

“When I was just a young joey, a big bushfire damaged my home. Sadly, it was started by someone who wasn’t being very safe. That moment lit a spark in me to make a difference, to protect the bush and everyone in it by spreading important safety messages.”

He says the best part of his job is hearing stories from kids and families who’ve used what they learned from our programs to make safe choices.

“Like the time a lost child calmly asked a shopkeeper for help because ‘Constable Kenny told me what to do’,” he says.

“Moments like that remind me why I do what I do.

“Whether I’m in a classroom, at a community event, or on patrol with my human officer mates, I wear the badge with pride – and a whole lot of paw-sitive energy!”
