One of Australia’s most popular comedians, Carroll, a registered nurse born in the UK and now settled in Australia, draws on her experiences in the healthcare sector to deliver sharp observations and relatable humour. Child Players ACT presents Dr Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat, an adaptation of the children’s classic, originally produced by the National Theatre in the UK. Created in collaboration with circus artist Jeff Young, the production combines lively storytelling with juggling, acrobatics and energetic performances from young cast members, bringing the favourite feline’s adventures vividly to life. Belconnen Community Theatre, July 10-18.
Off the Ledge Theatre presents Kerosene, Benjamin Nichol’s debut play exploring love, loneliness and obsession in suburban Australia. Millie’s yearning for acceptance drives her into an intense attachment to her best friend Annie, creating a story that burns with emotional intensity. Following her performance last year in The Almighty Sometimes, Winsome Ogilvie reunites with director Lachlan Houen for the work’s first production outside Melbourne. Courtyard Studio, July 16-19.
The ANU Community Music Centre has welcomed two young First Nations singer-songwriters, Yuin woman Lillian Fromyhr and Wiradjuri Year 11 student Molly Jae, into its Recording First Nations program. Funded by artsACT, the initiative provides training in recording, mixing and mastering, with participants selected by Indigenous Engagement and Impact officer Emily Thornton to develop professional music production skills. Something for Kate frontman Paul Dempsey brings his regional solo tour to Canberra. Alongside original material, audiences can expect favourite interpretations of songs such as Boys of Summer, Twist in My Sobriety, Mockingbirds, The Last Goodbye, Life on Mars? and Max Q’s Way of the World.
