Construction of Gungahlin’s second public college will begin in September, with the ACT Government spending $124 million on the new school in Nicholls.

The college is expected to open for Term 1, 2029, initially accommodating 800 Year 11 and 12 students with capacity for future expansion. It will become Canberra’s 10th public college.

Facilities will include a performing arts theatre, gymnasium, tennis hard courts, sports fields and food technology classrooms. Meeting spaces and some arts and sporting facilities will be available for community use outside school hours.

The all-electric campus will include solar power, water-wise landscaping and active transport facilities.

Local company Hindmarsh has been appointed to build the college, which forms part of the government’s $800 million program to build and upgrade Canberra public schools.

Education Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith said Gungahlin’s continued population growth meant additional school capacity was needed.

“We’re building Gungahlin’s Second College in Nicholls, so students can learn, study and shape their future closer to home,” she said.
