A woman has died following a head-on crash near Yass on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Hume Highway and Yass Valley Way at Manton, about 10km north of Yass, shortly before 1.45pm.

Police say a Mazda sedan collided with a Ford station wagon.

A 69-year-old woman, a passenger in the Mazda, died at the scene.

The Mazda driver, a 37-year-old man, was taken to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition with chest and pelvis injuries.

A woman in her 30s, also a passenger in the Mazda, was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition, while a 70-year-old male passenger was also taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the Ford, a 32-year-old woman and sole occupant, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to hospital.
