VIP visit to disrupt Canberra traffic

Canberra drivers are being warned of traffic disruptions today and Thursday as police manage motorcades for a visiting government guest.

Delays are expected in Civic and the Parliamentary Triangle until 9pm today, with further disruptions expected on Thursday morning on roads between the Parliamentary Triangle and Canberra Airport.

People travelling to the airport on Thursday morning are being urged to allow extra time to make their flights.

Police say motorists encountering a motorcade should follow police directions, particularly at intersections, and be prepared for short delays.

Drivers are also being warned not to cross verges, paths or median strips or perform illegal U-turns in an attempt to avoid delays.
