Two women carjack driver at knifepoint

A woman was allegedly assaulted and carjacked at knifepoint by two women in Gungahlin on Friday evening.

Police say the victim was targetted in the open-air car park on Boon Lane at about 6pm.

According to police, she had earlier agreed to drive the pair after they approached her requesting assistance. During the journey, the women allegedly assaulted her and forcibly removed her from the grey Hyundai Tucson SUV. A knife was produced during the incident, police allege.

The women then drove off in the vehicle, which was later located by police in Duffy. The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

Police report that the alleged carjacking follows an earlier approach by the same two women around 5.45pm, when they reportedly attempted to enter a vehicle in the underground car park at Gungahlin Marketplace on Ernest Cavanagh Street. On that occasion, the occupant declined to provide transport.

Police are looking to talk with anyone who witnessed either interaction, or has dash-cam or CCTV footage from the Gungahlin Marketplace underground car park or Boon Lane area between 5.30pm and 6.15pm.

Information can be provided to the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
