Tuggeranong violence prompts community forum

Canberra Liberals MLAs Mark Parton (left) and Deborah Morris (right) will host a community safety forum in Tuggeranong on Monday (November 9) following a series of violent incidents in the district.

Canberra Liberals MLAs Mark Parton and Deborah Morris will host a community safety forum in Tuggeranong on Monday (November 9) following a series of violent incidents in the district.

The forum follows an alleged knife attack at Lanyon High School, violence at an OzTag game in Calwell and a stabbing in the Lake Tuggeranong College car park.

Parton says antisocial behaviour has become too common and residents deserve to feel safe in their communities.

“Anti-social behaviour has become far too common in parts of our city. That is not the standard Canberrans expect, and it is not the standard we will accept,” he says.

Morris says the forum will allow residents, families, businesses and sporting clubs to raise concerns and discuss possible solutions.

“We want to hear directly from the community so we can work together on better outcomes,” she says.

The Tuggeranong Community Safety Forum will be held at Erindale Vikings on Monday, November 9, at 6.30pm.

Residents can register by emailing parton@parliament.act.gov.au or attend without registering.
