More than 140 trees will be planted along the Light Rail Stage 2A extension from Alinga Street to Commonwealth Park.

The ACT Government has released an interactive map showing the planned locations, species and expected environmental benefits of the new trees.

Plantings will include Himalayan cedars and pin oaks along London Circuit and Commonwealth Avenue. Many of the trees are already being grown at Yarralumla nursery and are more than four metres tall.

The Himalayan cedars planned for Commonwealth Avenue have been propagated from the same seedstock source as trees planted near Albert Hall under the direction of Charles Weston.

The government says the plantings are expected to lift tree canopy coverage along the route to more than 30 per cent once established.

Planting has already begun outside the Sydney and Melbourne Buildings and along Commonwealth Avenue, with further work planned as construction progresses.
