Teen found hiding in bin after stolen car chase

A 15-year-old boy has been charged after allegedly driving a stolen LandCruiser through Canberra’s southside before being found hiding in a rubbish bin.

Police say the grey Toyota LandCruiser was stolen from a Duffy home between Tuesday and Wednesday after offenders entered the residence and took the vehicle’s keys.

Police spotted the LandCruiser in Greenway about 3.45pm on Thursday, allegedly speeding and evading officers. It was seen again in Kambah, where the driver allegedly evaded police for a second time.

About 10 minutes later, a member of the public reported the vehicle had been abandoned in a Waramanga car park and two youths had run from the area.

Police searched the area and found the 15-year-old allegedly hiding in a residential rubbish bin in Stirling.

He has been charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent and driving while unlicensed.
