Police seized 19 vehicles and detected 22 impaired drivers during enforcement operations in the lead-up to and throughout this year’s Summernats.
The four-day Summernats event was held from Thursday to Sunday at Exhibition Park, with police conducting high-visibility patrols both at the event and on roads across the ACT.
On Saturday evening, police spotted a green Holden Commodore perform a burnout just metres from pedestrians at the intersection of Kunzea and Dryandra streets in O’Connor.
Police stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver, a 38-year-old Queensland man. His licence was immediately suspended for 90 days and the Holden Commodore was seized.
The man is expected to face court at a later date charged with aggravated dangerous driving.
Police say a number of other drivers also came to their attention throughout the weekend for hoon driving and anti-social behaviour.
