Police target rogue e-bikes, scooters in Canberra

Police will launch a targeted operation this weekend aimed at anti-social behaviour involving e-bikes, e-scooters and illegal off-road motorcycles across Canberra.

The operation follows an increase in complaints about riders damaging sportsgrounds and using electric and petrol-powered motorcycles in parks, reserves and ovals.

Police say riding motorcycles in suburban off-road areas is prohibited in the ACT and are reminding e-bike and e-scooter users to obey road rules and avoid riding while impaired, distracted or speeding.

Canberrans are being urged to report the locations of illegal motorcycles to Crime Stoppers, with police saying the information will help target enforcement and community education efforts.

Police say motorcycles may be seized and charges laid during the operation.
