A 31-year-old man has been charged with multiple driving offences following an overnight pursuit through Tuggeranong’s southern suburbs.
Police say they received a report on Sunday afternoon that a white Toyota LandCruiser had been stolen from Deakin Oval.
A short time later, police found the vehicle at a residence in Conder and observed the man get into the LandCruiser and drive away.
Tyre deflation devices were deployed, damaging the front and rear right tyres of the vehicle.
Police attempted to stop the LandCruiser on Box Hill Avenue in Conder after it was seen travelling at high speed, narrowly avoiding other vehicles and pedestrians.
The driver failed to stop and continued driving dangerously along footpaths and across a sports field, forcing members of the public to run for safety.
Police followed the vehicle through Gordon before losing sight of it. A short time later, the LandCruiser collided with a parked car in Isabella Plains before coming to a stop in Calwell.
The driver ran to the backyard of a nearby home, where police later found him hiding under a wooden deck and arrested him.
Police searched a bag in the man’s possession and located suspected methylamphetamine and stolen bank cards.
The man is facing the ACT Magistrates Court charged with failing to stop for police, aggravated dangerous driving, driving a motor vehicle without consent, unlawful possession of stolen property and driving while disqualified.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage of the vehicle to contact police via the Crime Stoppers ACT website or by calling 1800 333000.
