Parton rejects Castley’s bullying claims

Canberra Liberals leader Mark Parton… “Politics is a robust environment where strongly held views are debated vigorously.”

Opposition Leader Mark Parton has rejected Leanne Castley’s claims of bullying and a toxic culture within the Canberra Liberals.

Castley, a former Liberal leader, resigned from the party on Wednesday morning saying: “I have simply had enough of being part of an organisation with such a toxic culture.

“In the last 18 months, I have experienced bullying, intimidation, lies, and even a threat of physical assault. I can no longer be part of an organisation which tolerates this conduct.”

In rejecting her claims, Parton said: “Politics is a robust environment where strongly held views are debated vigorously, but we do not condone bullying, intimidation or inappropriate behaviour of any kind.

“Where concerns are raised, they are treated seriously and through the appropriate processes. Out of respect for privacy and confidentiality, we will not comment publicly on individual matters.

“As Leanne herself has said, she remains committed to the values that brought her into public life, and we expect we will continue to work together on many issues affecting Canberra.”
