Construction of the $49 million Watson Health Precinct has been completed, with rehabilitation and mental health services for young and First Nations Canberrans to begin operating next month.

The precinct provides new facilities for existing services run by the Ted Noffs Foundation and Marymead CatholicCare, as well as a new service operated by Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services.

Ted Noffs will return to the Watson site to provide youth alcohol and other drug rehabilitation, while Marymead CatholicCare will operate residential mental health care through its STEPS program.

The precinct also includes a new 24-bed residential alcohol and other drug rehabilitation facility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The facility will be operated by Winnunga Nimmityjah, which led its delivery and incorporated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and experience into its design.

The precinct, at the base of Mount Majura, replaces ageing buildings previously used to deliver services at the site.
