The new Monaro Highway flyover at the Lanyon Drive interchange will open to southbound traffic tomorrow (November 4), allowing motorists to bypass traffic lights at the busy intersection.
The 196-metre flyover is part of the $260.5 million Monaro Highway Upgrade Program, jointly funded by the ACT and federal governments.
More than 30,000 vehicles use this section of the highway daily, connecting Canberra with Queanbeyan and southern NSW.
Southbound motorists travelling towards Queanbeyan and Jerrabomberra will continue using the existing road to turn left into Lanyon Drive.
Cyclists heading south will also continue using the existing road and traffic lights until access to the flyover becomes available in early 2027.
The flyover features Indigenous artwork developed in consultation with Ngunnawal elders and community representatives.
The new northbound Dog Trap Creek Bridge is expected to open before Christmas, with the remaining initial interchange works scheduled for completion in mid-2027.
Further construction, including an extension of David Warren Road, a new southbound off-ramp to Lanyon Drive and removal of traffic lights near the Alexander Maconochie Centre, is expected to begin in 2028.
