The ACT Government will spend millions on programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Canberrans as part of the 2026-27 Budget, with funding directed towards health, housing, justice reform and community-led services.
Key measures include $1.2 million over four years for a culturally informed perinatal mental health support service and $1.9 million to expand the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce through the Indigenous Allied Health Australia Health Academy program.
The Budget also includes $500,000 to support Yerrabi Yurwang’s proposed 29-dwelling townhouse development in Moncrieff, alongside more than $3 million already committed through the Affordable Housing Project Fund.
A further $754,000 over two years will go towards a Truth Telling project linked to the Uluru Statement from the Heart, while $1.8 million has been allocated to strengthen oversight of justice system reforms and support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body.
The ACT Government says the Budget also includes more than $8 million for initiatives to be delivered by Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations under Closing the Gap commitments.
Work is also continuing on plans to transition Boomanulla Oval and the Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm to greater community control.
