A 40-year-old man has been charged with multiple sexual offences after allegedly abusing a child related to him over eight months.

Police allege the man sexually abused the girl at a south Canberra home between December and August.

The alleged abuse was reported to police on Sunday and officers arrested the man at a south Canberra home later that day.

He has been charged with four counts of an act of indecency with a young person under special care, two counts of sexual intercourse with a young person under special care, and one count each of incest and grooming a young person.
