A 23-year-old Turner man, subject to a good behaviour order and an intensive corrections order, has been charged after police found him in possession of a stolen vehicle in Gungahlin on Friday.
About 10.20am, police received reports of a white Subaru Forester being driven erratically on Flemington Road in Mitchell.
About 11am, officers found the SUV in a hardware store car park in Gungahlin. Checks confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen following a burglary at a property in Parkes.
Police say they reviewed CCTV footage, which allegedly showed a man exiting the driver’s seat of the Subaru.
About midday, the man matching the CCTV footage was arrested inside a Gungahlin shopping centre.
Police will allege the man was in possession of a key to the stolen Subaru at the time of his arrest. A subsequent search allegedly located additional car keys and a number of hand tools.
The man has been charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent and going equipped for theft.
