Lyneham man charged over police chase

A Lyneham man has been charged after allegedly leading police on a pursuit through Canberra’s north and the city early on Sunday.

Police say officers tried to stop the vehicle in Ngunnawal about 3.40am after noticing it was displaying stolen registration plates.

The driver allegedly failed to stop, drove through several northern suburbs, ran red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road before tyre deflation devices brought the pursuit to an end near the intersection of Alinga Street and Northbourne Avenue about 4.15am.

The 39-year-old, who police say was subject to parole conditions, was arrested at the scene.

He has been charged with aggravated dangerous driving and failing to appear before the Sentence Administration Board.
