Kidnap victim found injured in Dunlop parkland

A 27-year-old Dunlop man has been charged with kidnapping after allegedly holding a man captive, repeatedly assaulting him and forcing him to drink a substance that affected his consciousness.

Police allege the victim was at the man’s Dunlop home on October 10 when he became violent over cash he believed had been stolen from him.

The victim was allegedly prevented from leaving and repeatedly assaulted over the next day, suffering facial fractures, cuts and bruising after being struck with a weapon.

Police say the accused also forced the victim to drink a liquid that affected his consciousness.

On October 11, the victim was allegedly driven to an address in Queanbeyan, where the assaults continued and were recorded on the accused’s phone.

He was allegedly returned to Dunlop early on October 12 before regaining consciousness in parkland near Lance Hill Avenue, where he sought help at a nearby home.

The victim was taken to hospital with multiple injuries and has since been discharged.

Police arrested the 27-year-old at a Belconnen store on Monday and charged him with kidnapping a person who suffered grievous bodily harm and contravening a 3LA order.

Officers also searched his Dunlop home and seized several items believed to be linked to the incident.
