Hundreds to take part in 24-hour Relay For Life

The Relay For Life candlelight ceremony… participants pause to remember loved ones and stand in solidarity with those impacted by cancer.

Hundreds of Canberrans are expected to take to the track this weekend as the annual Relay For Life returns to the AIS Track and Field Centre.

The 27th edition of the Cancer Council ACT event will run for 24 hours from March 28 to 29, bringing together families, schools, workplaces and community groups to raise funds and support those affected by cancer.

Organisers are aiming to raise $400,000 for local cancer services, with more than $220,000 already raised as of Wednesday, just days out from the event.

Relay For Life recognises cancer survivors, supports those currently undergoing treatment, honours those who have died, and acknowledges the role of carers, while raising funds for research, prevention and support programs.

A key moment of the event will be the Candlelight Ceremony, where participants pause to remember loved ones and stand in solidarity with those impacted by cancer.

Cancer Council ACT says funds raised will go towards local support services, education programs aimed at reducing cancer risk, and ongoing research, with all money raised in Canberra staying in the ACT.
