A 23-year-old Farrer man has been charged with grooming a 14-year-old girl after being arrested at Chapman Oval on Friday night.
Police began investigating in late August after receiving a report that someone was allegedly exchanging sexual messages with the girl through social media.
Police allege the man had previously given the girl cash and alcohol and went to Chapman Oval on Friday night believing he was meeting her.
He was arrested and charged with grooming a young person, using a carriage service for child abuse material and supplying liquor to a young person in a public place.
Police seized phones from the man for forensic examination and say further charges may be laid.
Anyone with information about child grooming or child abuse material is urged to contact police via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
