Driver narrowly misses pedestrians in police chase

A 34-year-old Braddon woman has been charged after allegedly driving at pedestrians, speeding along a footpath and fleeing police in Ainslie.

Police were called to Officer Crescent about 11.30am on Thursday following reports of a silver Nissan Tiida being driven dangerously.

Officers spotted the car in a driveway before it allegedly accelerated away, narrowly missing two pedestrians and continuing along a footpath.

Police pursued the vehicle as it allegedly sped through Ainslie, repeatedly crossed onto the wrong side of the road and ran a red light.

Officers lost sight of the car about 11.45am and called off the pursuit. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Braddon and seized.

On Saturday afternoon, police spotted a woman matching the driver’s description walking along Ainslie Avenue in Reid and arrested her.

She has been charged with failing to stop for police, driving while disqualified and aggravated dangerous driving.
