The $10.4 million first stage of the Garden City Cycleway has been completed, providing improved cycling connections between Civic, Braddon, Ainslie and Dickson.
The final section, known as Stage 1D, is now open to the public, completing work that began in 2024.
The project was jointly funded by the ACT and federal governments.
City and Government Services Minister Tara Cheyne says the cycleway is part of efforts to encourage more Canberrans to walk and cycle.
Meanwhile, design work is underway on Stage 2, with construction expected to begin in 2027.
The next stage has received $5 million in federal funding and $6 million from the ACT government, bringing its total funding to $11 million.
Design work includes determining the route, intersection treatments, crossings and landscaping, with detailed plans to be released for community feedback before construction.
Once completed, the full Garden City Cycleway will connect Watson, Downer, Hackett, Dickson, Ainslie and Braddon with Civic.
