Canberra dash-cams catch 1934 traffic offences

Police have issued almost 2000 traffic infringement notices worth more than $850,000 after reviewing dash-cam footage submitted by Canberra drivers over the past year.

Police say 1934 infringement notices, along with 414 cautions and 279 warnings, were issued following reports through the ACT’s dangerous driving portal.

Since the portal was launched in May 2024, more than 4300 videos and reports have been submitted by the public.

Police say the most common offences captured were running red lights, driving without due care, negligent driving, failing to give way and failing to indicate correctly.

Authorities say submissions increased from about 1600 in the portal’s first year to 2700 in its second year.
