Canberrans are being urged to support local charities as the Canberra Day Appeal returns across February and March.

Run by Hands Across Canberra, the annual appeal raises money for ACT-based charities, with all funds staying in the territory to support people and families doing it tough.

Hands Across Canberra chief executive Genevieve Jacobs said the appeal was designed to make it easy for people to give locally and back causes that matter to them.

“The Canberra Day Appeal is about giving locally and supporting the causes that speak to you,” Ms Jacobs said.

“Whether you care deeply about mental health, homelessness, family support, education or social inclusion, there is a local charity doing important work right here in our community.

“Or if you can’t decide, give your donation to us at Hands Across Canberra so we can match donations for our charity partners.”

Ms Jacobs said that while Canberra was a great place to live for many, not everyone in the community was doing well.

“We know Canberra is a lucky city, but we also know that not everyone is doing it easy,” she said.

“By giving where you live, you’re helping strengthen local services and build a fairer, more resilient Canberra.”

The appeal also includes the Canberra Day Appeal Fun Run on March 9, offering another way for the community to get involved.

“The beauty of the appeal is that people can choose how they take part,” Ms Jacobs said.

“You can donate, run or walk, support a friend, or simply pick a charity that means something to you and give locally.”

The Canberra Day Appeal runs throughout February and March. More information or donations are available at canberraday.org.au.
