ACT seeks public input on swimming facilities

Canberrans are being invited to have their say on the future of public swimming pools and aquatic facilities as the ACT government develops a long-term strategy for the city’s aquatic network.

Canberrans are being invited to have their say on the future of public swimming pools and aquatic facilities as the ACT government develops a long-term strategy for the city’s aquatic network.

The ACT Aquatic Strategy will guide future planning and spending on aquatic facilities, taking into account community needs, affordability and growing demand.

The consultation follows a survey of more than 1550 Canberrans earlier this year, which found 59 per cent had visited an indoor pool in the previous 12 months.

The survey also found 71 per cent of respondents used aquatic facilities for casual swimming and recreation, while 45 per cent used them for lap swimming.

The government is seeking feedback on priorities, existing facilities and gaps in services across Canberra.

Swimming organisations, swim schools, facility operators and community groups will also be consulted as the strategy is developed.

Public consultation closes on December 18.

Feedback can be submitted through the ACT Aquatic Strategy YourSay website.
