Vehicle seized after driving at double the speed limit

A 24-year-old man in a black Honda Accord was caught travelling at almost twice the posted speed limit on on William Hovell Drive around midday on Wednesday.

He was detected travelling at 171km/h in a signposted 90km/h zone and was issued with an Immediate Suspension Notice, suspending his right to drive in the ACT for 90 days, and his vehicle was seized.  he will face the ACT Magistrates Court in the near future.

Meanwhile, police conducting roadside alcohol and drug testing on Belconnen Way, Aranda, at around 9.45, spotted a Holden Cruze with Queensland number plates being driven across a nearby nature strip, to avoid them.

The driver, a 32-year-old man whose licence was disqualified in Queensland, was followed and stopped. At the City Police Station he returned a breath analysis of 0.125 and arrested.

He has been charged with driving a motor vehicle with alcohol in blood/breath, driving while disqualified, and driving on a nature strip.
