REBECCA Minty has been appointed the ACT Inspector of Correctional Services, beginning her five-year term, and taking over from Neil McAllister, on Tuesday.

Minty has served as the deputy inspector since 2018, worked for the Association for the Prevention of Torture on its Asia-Pacific Program (2012-2016), and as human rights officer for the UN Office of the Human Rights Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

She holds masters degrees in law and international and area studies from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. She also has a bachelor of laws (first class honours) and bachelor of arts (political science) from the ANU, and was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor of the ACT Supreme Court in 2007.

The role of inspector was established in 2017 to provide independent oversight of adult corrections and youth justice facilities in the ACT.
