Gungahlin man charged with family violence

A 33-year-old man has been charged after allegedly chasing, tackling and strangling his partner in Gungahlin on Monday night.

Police allege the man threatened to kill the woman before chasing her from their home and tackling her on a grassed area near Flemington Road and Manning Clark Avenue.

He then allegedly choked her until she lost consciousness.

After regaining consciousness, the woman ran to the nearby light rail stop, where a tram operator secured her on board and called police.

The woman was taken to hospital and the man was arrested soon after following a traffic stop in Gungahlin.

He has been charged with family violence offences including aggravated choking a person and rendering them insensible, and aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Police are seeking to speak with the occupants of a white Subaru believed to have been in the area at the time of the incident.
