The ACT Government will spend $72 million over four years on tourism, events and visitor attractions as part of the 2026-27 Budget, with a goal of growing Canberra’s visitor economy by up to $1 billion by 2030.
The package includes funding to attract major events, expand the Major Event Fund and launch a new tourism marketing campaign targeting domestic and international markets, including India and the United States.
The Budget also includes funding to expand Floriade for its 40th anniversary in 2027, extend operating hours and encourage longer visitor stays.
Upgrades are planned for GIO Stadium, EPIC and the Canberra Theatre Centre, while work will continue on the proposed National Convention and Entertainment Centre and a new 2000-seat Lyric Theatre due to open in 2028.
The Government also plans to secure additional international cricket matches for Canberra.
