The ACT Government says it will spend $364 million over four years to deliver 450 new public housing dwellings as part of a new Public Housing Pipeline program.

The funding forms part of a broader housing package that includes a $39 million loan guarantee scheme to support the delivery of more than 1000 affordable homes through community housing providers and the Commonwealth’s Housing Australia Future Fund.

The Government says the 450 homes will be delivered through a mix of new construction, redevelopment of existing sites and market purchases.

A further $183.4 million has been allocated to public housing repairs and maintenance, bringing total spending on the program to $401.5 million over four years. The package also includes $15.8 million to bring more maintenance services in-house.

The ACT Government says the measures support its target of growing the public housing portfolio to 13,200 homes by 2030 and delivering an additional 5000 public, community and affordable rental homes by the end of the decade.

The Budget also includes support for new crisis and transitional housing and assistance for Aboriginal community-controlled organisations seeking to deliver social and affordable housing.
