Woman allegedly punched and threatened with knife

A woman was hospitalised after an alleged assault involving racial abuse and a knife in Belconnen last week.

About 5.45pm on Thursday, two women were confronted by a young person on Macdermott Place, who allegedly made racial comments toward them.

The women spoke to the child before the child’s mother, who was not known to them, approached and allegedly punched one of the women repeatedly in the head.

Police allege the woman then produced a knife and made threats to the victim and her friend before leaving the scene in a dark grey Ford Falcon sedan.

The injured woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe there were witnesses to the incident and that dash-cam footage from the area may exist.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact police via Crime Stoppers ACT website.
