Police renew appeal on Jyle’s baffling death

Jyle Molloy Murphy… struck and killed by a vehicle on Pialligo Avenue about 11pm on February 27, 2022.

Police have renewed their appeal for information on the fourth anniversary of the baffling death of 28-year-old Queanbeyan man Jyle Molloy Murphy.

Jyle was struck and killed by a vehicle on Pialligo Avenue about 11pm on February 27, 2022.

Investigators have established he was picked up by a dark-coloured sedan on Morshead Drive shortly before 11pm. He exited the vehicle a short time later and began walking along Pialligo Avenue, where he was fatally struck. CCTV also shows a white Toyota 4WD in the area around the time of the collision.

Police say the occupants of the dark-coloured sedan were likely the last people to see Jyle alive and are again urging them, along with the driver of the white 4WD, to come forward.

Anyone who travelled eastbound on Pialligo Avenue towards Queanbeyan or saw Jyle between Russell and Pialligo that night is also urged to contact police. Investigators are asking people to consider whether interstate visitors in Canberra for the Red Hot Summer Tour concert may have been in the area.

In a statement, Jyle’s family said the past four years had been filled with “unimaginable pain” as they continue searching for answers.

They described him as a kind and caring 28-year-old who loved his family and friends deeply, and said they would never give up seeking the truth about what happened to him.

Anyone who can assist is urged to contact police via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Information can be provided anonymously.
