No charges over Dissent poster seizure

Dissent bar in Civic… Police will return seized posters.

Police will not press charges over posters seized from Civic bar Dissent last week, confirming the material does not meet all elements required for criminal proceedings.

Officers attended the City venue on Wednesday, February 18, and asked the owner to allow police to take posters featuring prohibited symbols for assessment.

The owner declined the request and seven posters were seized under Commonwealth powers authorising the seizure of items containing prohibited symbols.

Police say that while the posters satisfied certain aspects of the legislation, other required elements were not met. As a result, criminal proceedings will not occur.

The posters will be returned to the owner in due course and the matter finalised.
