Sections of Commonwealth Avenue and Parkes Way will close at night and on weekends in February and March as work continues on Light Rail Stage 2A, including construction of a new bridge deck over Parkes Way.

Temporary road and lane closures will be in place on Commonwealth Avenue and Parkes Way in February and March as part of ongoing Light Rail Stage 2A works, including construction of a bridge deck over Parkes Way.

The works follow progress on track construction at Northbourne Avenue and Alinga Street in January.

The government says full closures of Commonwealth Avenue in both directions between the Parkes Way on and off-ramps and Vernon Circle are scheduled from 8pm February 23 to 5am February 24, and again from 8pm February 25 to 5am February 26. Detours will be in place.

A further closure will affect northbound traffic on Commonwealth Avenue between the Parkes Way ramps and Vernon Circle from 8pm February 27 to 5am March 2. During that time, southbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane, with northbound detours via the Parkes Way on-ramp and Edinburgh Avenue.

Intermittent single-lane closures in both directions between Parkes Way and Albert Street will occur from 8pm to 5am Monday to Thursday nights, as well as across the weekends of February 20 to 23 and February 27 to March 2, to allow for stormwater works associated with the light rail network.

A short section of southbound Commonwealth Avenue near Parkes Way will also remain reduced to one lane until March 31 for bridge works linked to the Parkes Way project.

The government says closures on Parkes Way and London Circuit East will coincide with bridge deck pours. Parkes Way westbound will close between the Commonwealth Avenue ramps on the night of February 23, while Parkes Way eastbound to the Commonwealth Avenue on-ramp will close on the night of February 25. London Circuit East will be closed in both directions between Commonwealth Avenue and Constitution Avenue on both nights.

Road impacts over the weekend of February 27 to March 2 will coincide with the Enlighten Festival and may affect travel to and from event precincts. A free shuttle bus will operate between the city and the Enlighten Festival Hub.

The works also coincide with the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal project by the National Capital Authority, which has closed the northbound span of the bridge.
