AMC inmates face family violence contraventions

FOUR Alexander Maconochie Centre detainees have been charged with contraventions of family violence orders (FVOs) this month.

The four inmates have been charged with a combined total of 14 contraventions of served and enforceable, nationally recognised FVOs.

Police will allege the detainees contacted protected persons from within the AMC in contravention of their FVOs by providing false information to ACT Corrective Services, using other detainees’ telephone accounts, or passing messages through third parties.

Additionally, the police have also charged an associate of one of the detainees, who is not a detainee at the AMC, with aiding and abetting the contravention of an FVO.

Contravening and aiding and abetting the contravention of an FVO carry a maximum penalty of up to five years imprisonment.
