TEENAGE street-racers are the latest to be caught speeding by ACT Police, as they begin targeting hoon driving throughout July.

Following new dangerous driving laws in the ACT, introduced on June 22, six drivers have had their licence suspended on the spot.

Officers can now immediately suspend the licence of a driver who is caught speeding at more than 45km/h over the speed limit, as well as immediately seizing their vehicle.

The latest includes two men, aged 17 and 18, who were caught street racing at 105km/h in the 60km/h zone along Athllon Drive at 11.30pm on Tuesday.

The first, a 19-year-old provisional licence holder from Banks who was caught driving at 147km/h in a 90km/h zone along the Monaro Highway.

A 43-year-old man driving a red Ferrari F8, a 22-year-old man driving a white Ford Falcon, and a 21-year-old woman speeding at 133km/h in an 80km/h zone have also received immediate suspensions, leaving them without a licence for 90 days.

Inspector Paul Hutcheson said police will have no hesitation in using these new laws to make the roads safer.

“Throughout July, police will target intimidating driving, burnouts, tailgating, menacing driving, and street racing,” he said.

“We will not tolerate these unsafe driving behaviours, or people who want turn public roads into their own personal drag strip or racetrack.”
